Founded in 1905, Dunmurry Golf Club began as a 9-hole course created by a group of local industrialists and businessmen. Its original site near Dunmurry Lane was chosen for its convenient railway access and scenic surroundings.
Over the decades, the club expanded significantly. By 1927, an 18-hole course had been developed, and a Ladies’ Section formally established. Notable members include Jean Marks, one of Ireland’s top amateur golfers, and Max McCready, winner of the 1949 British Amateur Championship.
Despite setbacks, including two bomb attacks in the 1970s that destroyed the old clubhouse, the club showed resilience—relocating and reopening a new 18-hole course and clubhouse in 1983.
Dunmurry has a strong tradition of competitive success, with highlights including victories in the Ulster Cup, Belfast & District Trophy, and a historic All-Ireland Barton Shield win in 2010.
The club today thrives as a welcoming, inclusive community with a vibrant Women’s Section, active Junior programme, and a commitment to excellence on and off the course.
